DHCA Elementary Learning Community Science Fair Poster Contest   WE ARE SO EXCITED ABOUT PARTICIPATING!!  The DHCE K-6 Elementary Learning Community will participate in the 2010 Morgan County Science Fair Poster Contest.  Please view the handout coming home in Monday's Folder for further details and information. 

 

CENTER FOR EXCELlence REMINDER!!  We will not be having classes on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 due to DHCA being dismissed for Spring Break.

 

GRANDPARENTS DAY VIDEO   If you are interested in acquiring a copy of the program presented by the students this past Friday at Grandparents & Special Friends Day, a DVD is available for purchase.  Please call the school office to request an order form.

 

CONGRATULATIONS!!  Jared Little, fourth grader in Mrs. Wood's Learning Community, has been selected to participate in the Alabama Baptist All-State Children's Honor Choir in Tuscaloosa.

  

MARK YOUR CALENDAR!!  The DHCA Theatre Arts Department proudly presents, "School House Rock LIVE!!"  on April 30 and May 1 in the DHCA Cafetorium.  MORE INFORMATION COMING SOON!!

 

Congratulations to all of the 2010 ACSI Spelling Bee participants.  A special recognition to Juliana Hudry, first grader of Mrs. Coffey's Learning Community, for winning first place in her age division at the 2010 ACSI Spelling Bee this past week. 

 

"POWER UP!!"   Caregivers are always invited to attend "POWER-UP," the weekly DHCA Elementary Learning Community chapel service on Thursday at 8:15 a.m. in the DHCA Cafetorium.  Judge David Breland will be the guest speaker.

 

DHCA 2010 Yearbook.  Don't forget to purchase your DHCA Elementary Learning Community yearbook!!  The yearbook is $22.00.  Also, if you have snapshots or photos of field trips, community activities, class events, please share with Mrs. Halbrooks for the yearbook.  Please email the pictures to shalbrooks@dhca.org.

JUNIOR CLASS PENNY DRIVE   March 22-26        K5-8th grade     Each penny is worth 1 positive point.   All other coins (nickel, dime, quarter, and paper bills)  are negative points (worth their face value).   The goal is obtain the most points for your homeroom.    Each day, the students will place their money in the jars beside their homeroom door.   Students from other homerooms are allowed to place “negative” coins in opposing homeroom jars, thus subtracting points from that homeroom’s total.  

Results for each day’s count will be posted in the cafeteria.   The homeroom that has the highest running total on the 26th will win first prize.  The team with the second highest running total will win second prize.   There will also be a “Ghost Winner”.

First Prize -  Ice Cream Sundae Party.   Plus, each student from the winning homeroom will get to “pie” a member of the staff/faculty (Mrs. Strom, Mrs. Crites,  Mrs. Little, Mrs. Ward, and others)   Second Prize – Pizza Party with Mr. Jones  Ghost Winner –  Extra Recess Time

 Informational Meetings for Prospective Parents  These events will be March 25 and March 30 at 8:30am and 6:30pm at the school.  If you would like to have an invitation sent to an interested family, please email their name and address to Laura Hellard at moor2978@bellsouth.net by March 8.

The Symphony is coming to DHCA!!  In partnership with the Huntsville Symphony, Mrs. Crews' third grade community of learners will experience violin instruction for ten weeks beginning in February.  Each week, a Huntsville Symphonic member will visit the DHCA campus to instruct third grade students on violin instruction, culminating with a "Stars Fall on DHCA" symphony concert, featuring our third grade students.  A special thank you to the DHCA Parent Organization for sponsoring this educational endeavor.

WONDERFUL WEDNESDAYS:  In an effort to make it more convenient for prospective parents to check us out, we would like to announce Wonderful Wednesdays began January 13. Every Wednesday from 8:00am-3:00pm during the spring semester, we will host an open house/school tour. These will be a drop-in format, with Mr. Mayo and Mr. Jones being available to lead tours and provide information all day. Tell your friends and neighbors!

MEDIA CENTER HOURS
The media center is open before school, 7:30 - 8:00, and after school, 2:45 - 3:15 Monday through Thursday. If there is a need for library materials outside of those hours, please email Mrs. Adams at fadams@dhca.org.

DHCA BLOOD DRIVE
Friday, March 5 in the Gym
 
Please support the American Red Cross and our school at our annual blood drive on Friday, March 5 from 8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.  To make this process very quick and easy, you may call (351-4272) or come by the school office to schedule a convenient time. 
 
Each donor will receive a T-Shirt, Chick-Fil-A sandwich and a coupon to Pizza Hut.  Your name will also be put in a drawing for a $1,000 Visa Card. 
 
This is a wonderful service project (sponsored by the Senior Class), and, as you know, the Red Cross is in desperate need of blood and you could help save a life! Thank you so much for your support!
 
2009-2010 Yearbooks
Orders for the Upper School 2010 yearbook are being taken now. Order forms are available in the school office.
 
 
SENIOR ADS AND BUSINESS ADS are available and appreciated to help offset the price of printing the 2009 -2010 Upper School yearbook. Many families from all over north Alabama will see the ad.
